Challenges for Cheatwood

The CBS Television Stations group gets something of a resident consultant and synergist.

The CBS Television Stations group gets something of a resident consultant and synergist. Joel Cheatwood, station manager at KYW-TV in Philadelphia, moves on to develop news initiatives, aid owned-and-operated stations that request his help, and coordinate resources as the group's vice president, news. "I get a lot of fulfillment out of tackling a lot of different issues," he says. "Idiosyncracies..of different markets present a set of challenges that are quite unique." Cheatwood will play an added role, that of news director of New York's ratings-impaired WCBS-TV. Cheatwood has watched ratings rise during his year-and-a-half with KYW, which will open network-morning-show-style, street-level studios in May.
