Pulling Rank

It was nice to see Santiago Lyon's promotion to the Associated Press' director of photography highlighted in the February/March issue (Bylines). However, if the writer could not resist using a military analogy, she should at least have gotten it right: Santi is not going from soldier to sergeant. He's going from junior officer to colonel, or maybe brigadier general. Running AP's global photo operations is not a sergeant's job. And going from soldier to sergeant is no big deal to begin with.
