Looking Outward

Just wanted to tell you that Deborah Potter's Broadcast Views essay in the current AJR (February/March) is really on the money! I continue to travel a fair amount--mostly in Europe--and I am continually frustrated that I am so limited in terms of cable TV viewing.

But just as you said--I am more frustrated that Americans in general are still so parochial in their knowledge and interests. I thought you made the absolutely right point in your last paragraph--and that alone ought to have created a demand for other voices and views. But the way most people in the media, as well as ordinary Americans, define that demand is by giving home-grown bloggers a bigger-than-life status.
