Marie Colvin, a highly respected foreign correspondent for the British newspaper the Sunday Times, died Wednesday in the embattled Syrian city of Homs when a house being used as a media center was hit by a shell. AJR senior contributing writer Sherry Ricchiardi profiled Colvin, a native of Oyster Bay, New York, and a Yale University graduate, in AJR's April 2000 issue. You can read that profile here. Colvin's death comes just six days after Anthony Shadid, a Pulitzer Prize-winning foreign correspondent, died of an apparent asthma attack while covering the fighting in Syria.
